MUSIC AT ST PAUL'S 21ST SEASON DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Due to demand, we strongly recommend that you order your tickets in advance of the concert date. Preferred seating is selling out early. Book early to avoid disappointment.
SUNDAY JULY 5, 2009 4:00 PM - Celebrate America! The program will feature works by a variety of American composers ranging from the relatively obscure 19th century organist John Zundel, to Arthur Foote, a member of the late-Romantic 'Boston Six', the impressionist Charles Tomlinson Griffes, iconoclastic Charles Ives and ever favorite John Philip Sousa.
Flutist Robert Billington will be featured in Griffes' ethereal Poem for flute and piano, and in Allen Blank's charming Waltz. Cellist Claudio Jaffe will perform some seldom performed, but immediately accessible, works by Foote. Billington and Jaffe will be joined by pianist Keith Paulson-Thorp for Charles Ives' famous Variations on America, the Cum-Bac Rag by Charles Johnson and Robert Hampton's Cataract Rag, and a new arrangement of John Philip Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever.
Baritone Ed Pierson will return to St Paul's to sing some favorite American spirituals, including Deep River, Motherless Child, Ain't got time to Die and Didn't it Rain. Dr Paulson-Thorp, the concert's host, will perform John Zundel's Variations on 'Home, Sweet Home' on the church's Lois Davett Memorial Chamber Organ.
SUNDAY AUGUST 23, 2009 4:00 PM - Duelling Divas of Jazz Anita Smith and Adriana Samargia join the St Paul's Jazz Ensemble for a sizzling afternoon of jazz solos and duets.
