EPISCOPAL CHURCH'S DAY OF REPENTANCE  A two-day solemn observance was held on October 3 - 4 at the historic African Episcopal Church of St Thomas in Philadelphia, PA where the Episcopal Church publicly apologize for its involvement in the institution of Transatlantic Slavery.  Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori served as celebrant and preacher at the October 4 service of repentance.  Read an article about the service here & read Bishop Jefferts Schori's homily here.

In the coming weeks, Rev Chip Stokes will present back to us the events of the observance and also lead a discussion on what this historic act means to the Episcopal Church.  Stay tuned for more details.

RESPONDING TO THE HURRICANES IN THE USA AND IN THE CARIBBEAN  In response to the recent storms that have caused devastation across the Caribbean and the Gulf Coast of the USA, please read the letter from Bishop Frade to the members of the Diocese of Southeast Florida calling for prayer and aid to help those suffering.  To send financial aid to those affected, you may either:

PRAYER, FASTING & WITNESS FOR THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS  Episcopalians and Anglicans from across the world were recently in New York City to participate in advocacy events surrounding the General Assembly session, and Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams issued a call for a renewed commitment to the MDGs - click here to read a transcript of his message.  Click here to send an email to your Congressional leaders urging our nation to keep its promises to make the MDGs happen.

THE ANGLICAN CHURCH IN ZIMBABWE NEEDS OUR PRAYERS  Many of you are aware of the persecution of the Anglican Church in Zimbabwe.  Our Presiding Bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori, asked Bishop Shaw of Massachusetts to visit Zimbabwe and to report his findings back to the church.  Bishop Shaw describes harsh conditions but a faithful church.  Click here to see an interview with Bishop Shaw and photographs from his visit to Zimbabwe.  Bishop Shaw told them that the whole Anglican Communion was praying for them.  Let's make sure that we share the news so that his statement will be true.
